Baseball Closes Florida Trip with Two Defeats to Wentworth

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team closed its annual spring trip to Florida with a pair of losses to Wentworth by the scores of 3-1 and 10-3 on Monday.

Wentworth 3, MLC 1

Wentworth scored three times in the first inning and held on the rest of the way to defeat MLC 3-1 in game one.

The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Caleb Christopher doubled home Aaron Roeseler, but the Leopards responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Both teams threatened at times throughout the rest of the game, but neither team was able to push across any runs. MLC starting pitcher Andrew Mantz (0-2) went the distance, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while stranding nine on base.

Christopher and Jonas Lindemann each recorded two hits for the Knights to lead the offense.

Wentworth 10, MLC 3

MLC finished its four-day Florida trip with a 10-3 defeat to Wentworth in game two.

The Leopards scored five times in the second inning off Michael Fromm (0-2), who allowed a total of five runs on six hits in two innings. Adam Kock and Noah Panzer pitched the final five innings in relief, allowing five runs on eight hits.

The Knights were finally able to get on the board in the sixth inning when Lindemann singled home Callahan Diersen, who started the rally with a single. MLC added two more runs in the seventh frame on another double from Christopher that scored Tyler Roecker and Roeseler.

Christopher finished the game 3-4 at the plate, while Roecker added two hits.

MLC fell to 2-6 on the season following the two losses. Wentworth improved to 3-3 following the sweep.

The Knights will return to action on March 24, when they play at Northwestern-St. Paul in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.
