NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team overcame a bad start to defeat Crown College 6-3 in Saturday's home finale.
The Storm could not have asked for a better start as Tim Jaeger scored goals in the second and eighth minutes, respectively, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Knights responded in impressive fashion, however, as
Xander Heiman scored twice in the first half to tie the game 2-2, and
Lucas Martin gave MLC a 3-2 lead with a goal from
Josiah Wordell in the 36th minute.
Heiman was not satisfied with his two first-half goals, and completed the hat trick in the 53rd minute with his third goal of the game to push the MLC lead to 4-2.
Nicholas Mitchell and
Daniel Buth added their first career goals late in the game to cap off the win, with
Justin Schroeder assisting on both tallies.
MLC dominated the stat sheet as well as the scoreboard, out-shooting Crown 30-7 overall and 14-3 in shots on goal.Â
Clay Hirsch and Martin added one assist in the game to go along with the helpers from Wordell and Schroeder (two).
Heiman's hat trick gave him seven goals this season, while Martin's tally was his team-leading ninth of the season.
The Knights improved to 4-12-0 on the season and 3-9-0 in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 1-14-0 overall and 1-10-0 in league play in defeat.Â
MLC will return to action on Wednesday, October 27, when it travels to North Central for a game scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
