NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team scored a school-record 14 goals in a 14-0 win over North Central University (NCU) in Saturday's regular season finale.
The Knights dominated from the start, as the depleted Rams could not put 11 players on the field during the game.
Morgan Spoehr,
Erika Rosenbaum and
Rebecca Krug each scored goals for the Knights in the first six minutes, and
Hannah Schroeder (two) and
Lydia Krenke added three more to push the halftime lead to 6-0.
The second half was more of the same, as six different MLC players scored at least once. Schroeder scored twice to give her four goals (and two assists) in the game, and
Courtney Ritter capped the scoring with the last two goals.Â
Nicole Porter,
Kaelyn Holdcroft,
Tabitha Vannieuwenhoven and Rosenbaum each scored once in the second half.
In total, nine different MLC players scored goals in the game. Schroeder's four goals and 10 total points gave her the team lead this season in both categories (five goals, 13 points). Rosenbaum's two tallies gave her four this season, while Porter's goal was her second.Â
Vannieuwenhoven's goal was her first of the season, while Ritter, Krug, Spoehr, Krenke and Holdcroft all scored for the first time in their MLC careers.
The Knights improved to 3-5 on the season and in league play with the win. NCU fell to 1-5 overall and in the UMAC with the loss.
