NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team rode a three-goal performance by sophomore forward
Isaias Santos to a 4-1 win over Buena Vista University (BVU) on Wednesday.
The Knights did much of their damage early on set pieces, as Santos scored goals in the 11th and 13th minutes just 2:14 apart on two corner kicks. The first tally was off
David Martin's corner that Schewe passed to Santos in front of the goal. The second goal came on a header off Martin's feed from the corner.Â
Santos added his third goal on a brilliant deflection in front of the goal off a feed by
Lucas Martin and
Xander Heiman to push the MLC lead to 4-0 in the 62nd minute. The three goals pushed Santos' season total to a team-high four on the season.
Josiah Wordell also got onto the score sheet for the first time in his collegiate career in the 39th minute off an assist by Schewe.
The Beavers finally scratched one goal past
Michael Friesenegger in the 68th minute, but that would be all the offense they could muster on the day. Friesenegger finished with six saves on seven BVU shots on goal.Â
Santos led all players with six total shots and four shots on goal. Wordell added two shots on goal in the win.
The Knights improved to 1-3-0 with the win, while BVU fell to 2-4-1 in defeat.
MLC will return to action on Friday, September 24, when they return to conference play with a game at 2 p.m. at Northland College.Â
