Knights Fall to Eagles 4-0

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team struggled in a 4-0 defeat to University of Northwestern (UNW) on Tuesday.

The Eagles controlled the start of the game, pressuring the Knights all over the field until taking a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.

The Knights started to settle in as the half went on, but UNW scored a momentum-stealing goal with just 24 seconds left in the first half following a miscommunication in the MLC back end to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

UNW continued to ride that momentum in the second half as the Knights struggled to connect passes together. The Eagles added a third goal in the 58th minute, and then finished the scoring in the 74th minute to put the game away.

The Eagles finished with 23 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Adam Rosenbaum stopped seven of those 11 shots on goal.

Nathan Pausma led MLC with two shots.

MLC fell to 1-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in UMAC play in defeat. UNW improved to 3-3-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in league play with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 2, when they host North Central in a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
