WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team lost 5-0 at Saint Mary's (SMU) on Monday.

The Cardinals jumped on the board in the 24th minute, but the Knights held them scoreless the rest of the first half to keep the deficit 1-0 at the break.

SMU started to take control again early in the second half, scoring in the 56th and 59th minutes, and then added goals in the 78th and 86th minutes to finish the scoring.

The Cardinals finished the game with 31 shots, 15 of which were on goal. MLC keeper Michael Friesenegger recorded six saves.

Xander Heiman led the MLC offense with two shots on goal. 

MLC fell to 0-2 in defeat, while SMU improved to 2-1 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday, September 9, when they travel to Viterbo for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
