WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team started the season with a 7-2 loss at Saint Mary's University (SMU) on Saturday.
In doubles play, the Cardinals opened the match with three wins by the scores of 9-2, 8-2 and 8-1.
The Knights were able to take two matches in singles play, as
Josiah Wordell (6-3, 6-4) won his number-four match in straight sets, while
Elijah Schulz (6-3, 0-6, 1-0) won his third-set tie-breaker 10-7 to get the win in number-five singles.
MLC fell to 0-1 on the season with the loss. SMU improved to 1-1 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, February 5, when they travel to Macalester for a match scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
