New Ulm, MN - The MLC Knights and Waldorf Warriors faced each other for a second consecutive matchup, where the Knights defeated Waldorf 64-55. On Monday night, the two squads played another close game with MLC coming out victorious again, due to their composure and late game execution.
Jordyn Heckendorf would seal the deal with a critical free throw, giving her team the
64-63 win.
The game would go back and forth in the first half, with MLC controlling the tempo. Waldorf made a push towards the end of the second quarter, going on a 10-0 scoring run which ultimately allowed them to tie the Knights up at 29 a piece at the break. The Warriors shot 66.7 percent from 3-point territory to close in on MLC.
Waldorf had gained momentum in the middle of the fourth quarter taking the lead, but a full court press would prove to disrupt the Warriors, allowing MLC to take advantage of some turnovers. A 3-point shot from
Emma Nelson at the top of the key and a steal by
Lydia Feidt opened up a comeback opportunity for the Knights. They would later capitalize on those plays with a scoop shot layup from Heckendorf with 46.5 seconds remaining. Following that sequence, Waldorf would tie the game up 63-63, but freshman
Alyah Abrahamson made a crucial error and purposefully fouled Heckendorf, which sent her to the line and eventually ended the game with a clutch free throw from the junior guard.
Heckendorf ended the night with a season high 14 points and 14 rebounds. Nelson also chimed in with a double-double of her own (14 points, 11 rebounds).
The
MLC Knights (4-2, 0-0) will travel to Lacrosse in an Exhibition game against Viterbo on Wednesday
