Defense Spurs Knights Win over Westminster 10-7

The Knights defense led the way for their second win of the season 10-7 over Westminster in New Ulm last Saturday.
After an opening drive of 53 yards and over 8 minutes, Westminster scored its only points of the game midway through the first quarter. After that, it was lights out for the MLC defense. The defense held the Bluejays to just over 100 yards oa total offense for tha game. The MLC offense evened the score right before half time on a Max Nordlie 7-yard TD run.  The defense would continue to deny Westminster throughout the game. MLC went up on Micah Koschnitzke's 20-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

The MLC defense again rose to the occasion with several key plays in the fourth quarter. A couple of sacks and a key interception off a trick play by senior Nathan Golisch sealed the victory for the Knights. For the game, the Knights had seven tackles for losses. Cooper Knoll led the Knights with 8 tackles, including a sack, Adam Arrowsmith had a sack, 2.5 tackles for losses and  a forced fumble.

Coach Paul Huebner said, "Coach  (Benjamin) Olson and the rest of our defensive staff were outstanding in preparing our guys to play lights out on Saturday. Our two defensive captains were especially important as Nathan Golisch (INT) and Adam Arrowsmith (Sack, FF) both made huge plays in the fourth quarter to take the ball away from Westminster and seal the victory. "

He added, "[We] may not have looked pretty on offense but we did end nearly every drive with a kick of some kind (punt, PAT, or FG) which meant our guys did a good job taking care of the football. The two drives that didn't end with kicks were because of my decisions to go for it on fourth down."

The Knights are now 2-7 on the year and 2-3 in the UMAC.
