NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team swept both games of its doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) by the scores of 12-3 and 11-0 on Monday.
MLC 12, MBU 3
The Knights scored 10 times in the first inning and never looked back on the way to a 12-3 win in the opener.Â
MBU scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Knights responded with 10 runs on nine hits in the bottom half.
Jordyn Heckendorf led off the game for MLC with her second home run of the season and added an RBI-double later in the frame.
Lisa Hoffer,
Elena Hoffman,
Kylie Wolf,
Emmalee Mindock and
Madison Uhlenbrauck also drove in runs during the rally.
That would be more than enough offense for
Lexi Fischer (1-1), who overcame the rocky first inning to earn the win with just three runs allowed on six hits in five innings of work.Â
Heckendorf and Mindock led the offense with three hits apiece.
MLC 11, MBU 0
MLC scored at least twice in each inning en route to an 11-0 win in the nightcap.Â
The Knights enjoyed another big first inning in game two, scoring five runs as Hoffman drove in two with a double, and later stole home as part of a double steal.
Wolf drove in one run in the second with a single in the second inning, while Hoffer added a two-run single of her own in the third.Â
Madison Uhlenbrauck (1-7) made quick work of the Sabercats' offense as she scored her first career win and shutout in the circle. She pitched all five innings, allowing only five hits while striking out four.
MLC improved to 3-13 on the season with the sweep. MBU fell to 0-14 with the two defeats.
These two teams will return to action tomorrow (Tuesday, April 12) when the Knights host the Sabercats for another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
