Softball Scores UMAC Win in Split with UMM

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball scored its first win of the conference season in a doubleheader split with University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) on Tuesday. The Knights took the opener 6-4 before losing game two 8-4.

MLC 6, UMM 4

The top of the MLC order led the charge for the Knights as they took game one 6-4.

The first four hitters in the MLC batting order (Jordyn Heckendorf, Lisa Hoffer, Kylie Wolf and Elena Hoffman) went a combined 9-12 with five runs scored and all six runs batted in (RBI) in the game. 

Hoffer led the Knights with three hits and added two runs scored with two doubles, while Heckendorf scored the other three runs for the Knights. Wolf and Hoffman each recorded two hits and two RBI.

Madison Uhlenbrauck (2-8) earned the win in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) while scattering 12 hits in seven innings.

UMM 8, MLC 4

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Knights 8-4 in the nightcap. 

UMM scored five times in the second inning and led 6-0 in the fourth frame before Hoffman got the Knights on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly.

The Knights tried to rally in the seventh with a pair of runs following Hoffer's third double of the day, but the Cougars held on to secure the win and the split.

Hoffer and Emma Berg led the MLC bats with two hits apiece. Jessica Horn (2-7) took the loss in the circle after allowing all eight runs in seven innings.

MLC moved to 6-16 on the season and 1-7 in UMAC play following the split. UMM is now 9-16 overall and 6-6 in league play. 

The Knights are scheduled to return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, April 20) when they travel to Crown College for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
