MORRIS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team defeated University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) 5-4 on Thursday for its first win of the season.
MLC started the match in doubles play, winning two of the three matches to take a 2-1 overall lead. The number-one team of
Jonah Schulz and
Seth Koelpin won 8-4, while the number-three team of
Elijah Schulz and
Brian Friesenegger took their match 8-6.
Needing three more points to score the overall win, the Knights got three wins in singles play as Koelpin (7-5, 6-4),
Josiah Wordell (6-4, 6-3) and
Elijah Schulz (6-4, 6-2) each won in straight sets to secure the team win.
MLC improved to 1-8 on the season and 1-4 in UMAC play with the win. UMM fell to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will host the Cougars in a return match on Monday, April 25, at 1:00 p.m.
