NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team returned home with a 6-3 loss to University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) on Monday.
The Knights fell into an early 3-0 hole as the Cougars swept the three doubles matches by the scores of 8-5, 8-4 and 8-5.
Those three points proved critical in the end, as the Knights split the six singles matches, but could not overcome the early deficit as the Cougars took the match 6-3.
Jonah Schulz (4-6, 6-1, 1-0) won his number-one singles match in three sets following a third-set tiebreaker.
Josiah Wordell (6-4, 6-4) and
Elijah Schulz (7-5, 6-2) each won their matches in straight sets.
MLC fell to 1-9 on the season and 1-5 in UMAC play in defeat. The win was UMM's first of the season, pushing its record to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, April 27, when they host Bethany Lutheran College in a match scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
