MINNEAPOLIS - The Martin Luther College softball team swept North Central University (NCU) by the scores of 7-3 and 6-2 in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
MLC 7, NCU 3
The Knights overcame a late deficit to win game one 7-3.
NCU scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning, and then took a 3-2 lead with one more run in the fifth inning off MLC starting pitcher
Madison Uhlenbrauck.
The Knights answered in the top of the sixth, however, as
Jordyn Heckendorf hit a two-run home run to give MLC the lead, and
Elena Hoffman capped the scoring with a three-run home run later in the inning to push the lead to the final 7-3 margin.
Hoffman was one of four MLC hitters with two hits in the game, along with
Lisa Hoffer,
Kylie Wolf and Uhlenbrauck. Uhlenbrauck (4-10) earned the win in the circle for the Knights by allowing only three runs (two earned) in seven innings.
MLC 6, NCU 2
MLC once again came back from an early deficit to win game two and finish the sweep 6-2.
The Rams took a page from their game-one playbook with two runs in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead, but MLC came back with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth frames.
Hoffer led the charge in the fifth inning with a two-run double, while Uhlenbrauck hit an RBI-single in the sixth, and later scored in the inning on another Hoffer hit.
That was more than enough offense for MLC starting pitcher
Jessica Horn (3-10), who went the distance in the circle and allowed only two runs (zero earned) in seven innings.Â
MLC improved to 9-21 on the season and 4-12 in UMAC play with the sweep. NCU fell to 12-25 overall and 3-15 in league play after the two defeats.
The Knights will get right back at it tomorrow (Wednesday, April 27) when they travel to Crown College for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
