Men's Soccer Edged Out by Polars

St. Bonifacius, MN - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team lost their third-straight contest on the road 1-0 to the Crown Polars on Saturday afternoon.

The only goal of the game came in the 23rd minute of the first period following a corner kick for the Polars. Alan Montano would capitalize on that opportunity and gave his team the lead and ultimately the deciding goal.

The Knights would have a chance to even up the game with a penalty kick attempt by Josiah Wordell at the 26th minute, but the senior came up short.

The game had three yellow cards within a two-minute span near the 80th minute, with Crown committing two of the cards. However, MLC was unable to score the equalizer and walked away with the conference loss.

Goalkeeper Zachary Pausma had one of his better performances of the season, recording 16 saves and allowed just one goal. Wordell ended the game as the aggressor for the Knights, firing off three shots on goal, while the rest of the offense had just two shots on target, with both coming from Silas Gawrisch.

MLC (3-12, 1-9) will now aim to avenge their 2-1 loss to Minnesota Morris, when they head west for a road game with the Cougars on Tuesday, October 17. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
