Seniors Lead Men's Soccer to Win Over North Central

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team finished the 2023 season with a conference win over North Central 4-2 on Saturday.

The Knights had to battle harsh field conditions as the first snowfall in Minnesota occurred, but maintained their edge to complete the season sweep of the Rams.

Isaias Santos broke open the scoring for MLC and started off his senior day with a goal in the 41st minute to put the Knights up 1-0 heading into the break.

Stephen Wietzke provided a bit more cushion to begin the second period, when he found the back of the net for his first goal of the season off of a corner kick.

Jake Vilhauer wrapped up his MLC career with a penalty kick goal shortly after, giving the senior his first career goal to put the Knights ahead 3-0.

The Rams did score a pair of goals at the 65th and 82nd minute respectively to apply some game pressure towards the Knights, but MLC was able to quickly respond and iced the game away with a goal from Nathan Pausma in the 86th minute. The goal came after Santos stole the ball in the midfield, where he then found the open Pausma trailing down the field to give the Knights the 4-2 victory.

Offensively, the Knights had a season-best 11 shots on goal and had their second highest goal output of the season with the four goals.

With the win, the men's soccer team would finish 4-14-1 overall and 2-11-1 in conference play to improve upon their three win season in 2022.
