New Ulm, MN -
Grace Kieselhorst collected 15 kills, the Knights moved up the conference standings, and picked up their first sweep of the season in a
3-0 win (25-18, 25-23, 26-24) on Friday evening.
MLC began the match by controlling the net and separated themselves from the Lumberjills mid set thanks to six consecutive kills.
Northland punched back in the second set to take the lead 19-18, as the set saw five lead changes that ultimately swayed in favor of MLC (25-23).
The third set had Northland up front from the first point on and it looked as if the match was going to at least four sets with the Lumberjills taking a 20-13 advantage. However, MLC showed their resiliency and cut it to 22-19 off an attack error from Northland. From there, the Lumberjills put together two more kills to be at set point (24-19), but the Knights rattled off seven unanswered points to complete the sweep.
Joining Kieselhorst in double-digit kills was
Paige Biesterfeld, who registered 10 in the match and hit a team-high .450.
Kieselhorst continued her all around match by racking up a team-best four blocks and was second on the team in assists (13) and digs (12). Freshman
Ella Walz led the Knights with 23 assists, to expand upon her team lead in that area.
MLC also benefited from nine blocks as a team and hit .150 for the match on 45 kills, 25 errors, and 133 attempts.
With the sweep, MLC improves to 5-12, 3-2 in UMAC play and traded spots in the standings with Northland after the win, moving into fourth place as of Friday.
The Knights hope to leapfrog UW-Superior in their next match, who holds the third spot, when the two squads play on Saturday afternoon in the LSC at 1 p.m.
