Knights Feidt Off Waldorf 57-50

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team snatched its second win of the season over Waldorf in a tightly contested game by a final score of 57-50 on Friday.

The Knights held the Warriors to a season-low 29.8 shooting percentage (17-of-57) and made it difficult for them to get into much of an offensive rhythm. MLC benefited from the return of key sophomore guard, Lydia Feidt, who made her season debut after suffering a torn ACL in her freshman season last January. The guard finished with 10 points and five rebounds in limited minutes, but presented challenges for Waldorf with her length on the defensive end of the court.

"We all know how hard Lydia has worked to get back, so it was just incredible to see her out there. Then to see her make clutch shots and grab timely offensive rebounds reminded us how much of an impact player she is," said head coach Dan Gawrisch.

Feidt and the Knights would hold off a Waldorf comeback in the fourth quarter after both teams were evened up at 36-36 to begin the final period. MLC separated a bit from the Warriors after Ella Walz hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc and the Knights went up 41-36 with 7:01 remaining in the game. From there, the frontcourt tandem of Edosa Ogbemudia and Brooke Dial answered back in the paint for Waldorf and both squads would trade leads for the next few minutes.

Feidt would break another tie between the teams with a corner three point jump shot, as the Knights went up 49-46. Jordyn Heckendorf then connected from deep to make it 52-47 a few possessions later at the 2:05 mark and MLC would then settle into the home victory down the stretch.

Coach Gawrisch was pleased with how the women handled some adversity to battle back in the fourth quarter. "It was huge to see us respond to their offensive runs with solid execution. We communicated well, stayed within ourselves and continued to trust one another to play together."

Grace Kieselhorst led the Knights with a season-high 15 points and also had two steals on the night. Heckendorf collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while also picking up a season-best five assists.

Maya Price recorded her first collegiate start at MLC and set the tone on both ends of the court with her finishing ability near the rim and her intense rebounding. Price finished with nine points and four boards.

With the win, MLC improves to 2-5 on the season and will have another home game with an Iowa school when they host Luther College on Tuesday, December 5 at 7 p.m.
