Women Take Care of Business Against Buena Vista Behind Kieselhorst's 28 Points

Storm Lake, Iowa - After a couple of narrow losses in the final minutes to Buena Vista in the previous meetings, the MLC women's basketball team was able to come out on top to record their first win over the Beavers in school history, beating Buena Vista 88-76 on Wednesday.

The Knights relied heavily upon Grace Kieselhorst, who scored a career-high 28 points, five rebounds and four steals. The junior went 9-of-17 from the field and was also efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 4-of-6 on 67 percent.

Buena Vista did shoot 55.2 percent from the field in the first half, but struggled to keep the ball out of the hands of the MLC defenders, as the Knights forced 16 turnovers to take a 42-38 lead at halftime.

The Knights would break things open in the second half and had a decisive 18-2 run that gave them a 65-46 advantage with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter. Kieselhorst knocked down a 3-pointer from the wing to force a Beavers' timeout to turn the tide in favor of the Knights.

MLC took their biggest lead of the game at the 7:35 mark of the fourth quarter when Lydia Feidt connected on a triple to make it 79-55, but the Beavers had a little run of their own and went on a 15-2 run in the final quarter. The strength of that run came off of Danika Demers (24 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists), who made a pair of free throws to cut the Buena Vista deficit down to 83-72 with 4:33 remaining.

From there, the Knights' defense would adjust and the Beavers would score just four points for the remainder of the contest, as MLC walked out of Siebens Fieldhouse with its third win of the season.

The Knights would gather up multiple season best performances offensively in points scored (88), field goal percentage (42.9), 3-pointers made (12), and 3-point percentage (40.0). In addition to those shooting numbers, MLC did a solid job at the free throw line and didn't let too many points go off the board, going 22-of-27 from the charity stripe.

Feidt also notched a career-high in points scored (20) and grabbed three steals, in her first start since last season. Jordyn Heckendorf filled up the stat column with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, while Lauren Paulsen had 13 points and eight rebounds.

MLC (3-8, 0-2) has a few weeks off during the holidays before they return to the court with an exhibition matchup on the road at Southwest Minnesota State. That game will be played on Tuesday, January 2, at 5:30 p.m. in Marshall, MN.
