Superior, WI - MLC (2-17, 0-9) lost their previous matchup to UW-Superior on December 10th at home 94-58 , in a game where the Knights had trouble slowing down the run and gun style of the Yellowjackets. On Friday evening, MLC did a better job of preventing fast break opportunities, but were unable to overcome 20 turnovers and fell to the Yellowjackets
76-60.
UW-Superior replicated their hot 3-point shooting from last matchup with more of the same in this game, especially from
Reid Johnson who went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc with 11 of his 13 points coming in the first half. The Yellowjackets also forced many Knights' miscues and built a 44-26 advantage going into halftime.
The Knights were able to cut down on their turnovers and shot the ball much better in the second half, but the size and versatility proved to be too much for the Knights, as they allowed 38 points in the paint. The 6'7" Center
Josef Fahrenholtz played a big part in the paint production for the Yellowjackets, finishing with 23 points and eight rebounds to lead all scorers. MLC forward
Seth Veers had one of his better offensive performances in the previous meeting in December with 20 points, but was quiet in this contest only going 2-of-6 with six points. The Knights were instead led in scoring from freshman big man
Ethan Kjenstad who finished with 11 points.
MLC now falls to (3-12) all-time against UW-Superior since their first matchup which appeared in 2009. The Knights will turn around and head to Ashland for a Saturday afternoon game at Northland, which tips off at 3 p.m.
