La Crosse, WI - The Martin Luther College softball team was held to just seven hits combined in a non-conference doubleheader against Viterbo on Tuesday afternoon. The V-Hawks defeated the Knights
9-0 in a pair of five-inning contests.
Viterbo 9, MLC 0
Sophomore right-hander
Jessica Horn took the mound in the opener and struggled to get through the first inning, giving up a five-run first inning on seven base hits. Horn would go 4 innings, allowing seven runs on 13 hits. The best opportunity for the Knights to score came in the first inning when
Lisa Hoffer and
Jordyn Heckendorf hit consecutive singles. However, they were left stranded on base after
Katelyn Rassat grounded out to third base.
After the second inning, the V-Hawks added on a run in each inning and also gained a solid outing from pitcher Maddie Wilkey to lead them to the win over MLC.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Knights found themselves down 3-0 through three innings of play. The V-Hawks then separated themselves from MLC with a four-run fourth inning. The Knights would struggle again at the plate, with only 3 hits in the game.
Lisa Hoffer,
Jessica Horn, and
Sarah Vance each finished with a hit apiece and the Knights as a team did a solid job of putting the ball in play, only striking out twice in five innings.
Horn would suffer the loss for MLC, tossing 2 innings with only one run on two hits.
Madison Uhlenbrauck came in relief for Horn, pitching 2.1 innings, while surrendering eight runs on nine hits.
MLC (3-9) will continue their season when they head to Watertown on Wednesday, April 5, for a 4-game series against Maranatha Baptist.
