Knights Drop Doubleheader to UW-Superior

Stevens Point, WI - The MLC softball team lost both games of its doubleheader to the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Friday. In the first game, MLC fell 12-4, while losing in the later matchup, 8-2 in the team's conference opener.

UW-Superior 12, MLC 4

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an 11-0 lead through three innings of play. UW-Superior broke the game open with a 9-run third inning, with the Yellowjackets batting around the whole lineup. The Knights would not go down easily, answering with a 4 runs in the fourth inning, with Anna Busch hitting the first home run of the season for MLC. UW-Superior would tack on one more run in the fifth inning to secure the 12-4 win.

MLC finished the game with five base hits, with Lisa Hoffer and Busch going 1-2 on the day. Jessica Horn tossed 2.1 innings for the Knights and was issued the loss, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits.

UW Superior 8, MLC 2

The Knights would turn around and strike first in the second game of the doubleheader with an RBI groundout from Horn, scoring Jordyn Heckendorf. The momentum would soon sway over to the Yellowjackets in the bottom of the second, when they took the lead 3-1 off a 3-run homer by MyKenzie Leccia to centerfield. Heckendorf responded in the following inning with her first long ball of the season to trim the deficit to (3-2) in the top of the third inning.

Leccia would then single to left field to give UW-Superior a 4-2 lead, where the Yellowjackets would build a cushion between themselves and the Knights. As a result, UW-Superior would go on to score six unanswered runs, on the way to their 8-2 victory over MLC.

Madison Uhlenbrauck suffered the loss for MLC, but threw a complete game, going 6 innings with 8 runs allowed. The pitcher did strikeout three Yellowjacket batters.

The pair of losses brings the Knights' record to (3-11, 0-2). The Knights will look to snag their first win of UMAC play when they host Crown on Tuesday, April 11, for the first home series of the 2023 season.
