Blazers Out Hit Knights in Day 2 of Florida Trip

    Auburndale, FL - The MLC baseball team played a doubleheader on Saturday, March 4 against the Elms Blazers from Massachusetts. The Knights were unable to pick up a victory in either contest, as the Blazers outhit MLC, defeating them 7-1 in game one and 18-2 in the second game.

Both teams would score in the first inning, with Mason Cox driving in an RBI Double for MLC. Neither team would cross the plate in the next couple of innings, until the Blazers broke the game open with a 6-run bottom of the fourth. Grad Student, Nate Kelley, proved to be the difference maker for Elms, especially when the outfielder connected on a grand slam to make it 6-1 in favor of the Blazers. Elms would then tack on another insurance run to beat MLC 7-1.

    Carter Seltz (0-1) threw 3.2 innings for MLC, allowing 7 runs on 9 hits.

    Cox would go 1-2 with an RBI double and Jackson Lindemann had an all around game at the plate and as a baserunner, going 1-2, with 1 BB and a stolen base.

    Elms 18, MLC 2

    In the second game of the doubleheader, the Blazers would score 3 runs in the first inning and then separated themselves from the Knights with a 10-run third inning to take an early 13-0 lead against MLC. The Knights would score their only runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning with a Cox home run and an RBI single from Seltz. The Blazers followed up MLC's rebuttal with another 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning. 

    Cox would go 1-3 with his second home run of the season, while Alex Ritter  found his stride with 2 base hits and one run scored. Sam Rodriguez (0-1) threw 2.1 innings and gave up 9 hits (10 earned runs). Despite the tough outing, Rodriguez did strikeout 3 Blazers on the day. 

    The Knights will look to regroup and pick up their first win of the season when they face Medaille in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 5.
