New Ulm, MN - The MLC women's tennis team lost their final match of the 2023 season to Minnesota-Morris 6-3 on Monday afternoon. The Knights finally played a home match on a 40 degree day at the end of April, but were unable to wrap up the season in winning fashion.

MLC fell to the Cougars 6-3 in their previous meeting on April 12, when they were swept in doubles play. On Monday, the Knights were able to pick up a point in their No. 3 doubles match from the duo of Abigail Schewe/Katie Kutz (8-2).

Minnesota-Morris would respond by winning the next four matches to secure the team win, but MLC secured two more points from Schewe (6-3, 7-6) and Rachel Schoeneck (6-0, 7-6). 

The Knights went to 3-12 overall and 3-7 in UMAC play to finish the 2023 tennis season. MLC improved upon their win total from last season when they went 1-13.

MLC finished in fifth place in the UMAC women's standings and will not be competing in the conference championships, as the top two teams from the North and South division advance to the semifinals.

UW-Superior and Minnesota-Morris will be in the play-in game on April 25. The winner be the No. 2 seed in the North and will face the No. 1 seed (South) Principia. The (North) No. 1 Northwestern will play against No. 2 (South) Webster University on Friday, April 28. The winners will play for the championship on Saturday, April 29.
