New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team secured their second win of the season in a 2-1 defeat over the Beavers of Buena Vista University.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first when Josiah Wordell hit a penalty kick towards the right side of the net, following the yellow card committed by the Beavers' Eduardo Garcia.

That goal boosted the momentum for MLC as they played solid defense the rest of the first period to hold the Beavers scoreless.

The second period saw some chippy play between the two squads, as they both played with physicality and showed their willingness to win.

MLC would score their second goal via Nathan Pausma at the 53:24 mark in the second period. The defenseman found his shot and took advantage of the open space in front of him to score the goal.

Shortly after Pausma's goal, Buena Vista found a crease in the middle of the field and slipped by the MLC defense to put themselves on the scoreboard, making it 2-1 at the 54:17 mark.

The Beavers controlled the possession fo the ball the majority of the second period, but the MLC defense of Jed Mittelstadt and Eli Dorn especially made it difficult for Buena Vista to get the equalizer.

The Beavers had a few chances to tie it up in the final minutes and goalkeeper, Adam Rosenbaum, had his best save of the day with just under 10 minutes remaining. That save sealed the deal for the Knights, as they went on to win the game.

Wordell scored his third goal of the season to lead the Knights in that category and Rosenbaum recorded 10 saves in 90 minutes of action.

MLC goes to (2-3) on the season and will host their conference opening game on Wednesday, September 13, at 2 p.m. against Minnesota Morris.
