St. Bonifacius, MN - The Martin Luther College football team put up big offensive numbers, especially in the first half, to springboard a
30-14 conference victory over Crown College on the road Saturday afternoon.
Freshman quarterback
Brady Turriff threw for a career-high 335 yards and 3 TDs in what was his best performance through five games under center with the Knights. Turriff played efficiently with a 62.5 completion percentage on 15-24 through the air and his 71-yard touchdown to running back
Arthur Robinson extended the Knights' lead to 24-7 in the second quarter. Turriff then made it 30-7 following a 10-yard touchdown to
Thomas Koelpin with under two minutes remaining. Those two scores combined with a 38-yard field goal by
Micah Koschnitzke totaled 16 points in the quarter to further cement the outcome towards MLC.
The Knights' defense was again in sync and put forth another collective effort, holding Crown to just 14 points and 268 yards of total offense.
Thomas Balge led MLC in tackles, recording 10 in the game, while the Knights' defensive line came to play, with
Jesus Medina and
Joseph Dahlberg making six tackles. Additionally,
Andrew Esmay joined the defensive front with two of the three MLC sacks.
Andrew Raasch posted a career-best 125 receiving yards on four receptions and put the Knights on the scoreboard first with a 20-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter of action.
With the win, MLC improves to 4-1 overall, 2-0 UMAC, and have a chance to go 3-0 in conference competition, when they travel to Southern Illinois next weekend for a date with Greenville University. The game is scheduled for October 19 at noon.
