Decorah, IA - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team notched a
62-47 nonconference win on Tuesday against Luther College on the road. The Knights put together an impressive defensive performance and held the Norse scoreless in the second quarter to go up 34-17 at halftime after the game was 18-17 following the first period.
MLC received a collective effort from up and down the lineup and was able to keep the momentum on their side in the fourth quarter when
Grace Kieselhorst made two steals that led to a couple of fast-break layups.
The Knights could afford to ice the game away in the final 5 minutes of action thanks to their defensive effort throughout the game as Luther shot just 26.3 percent and 2-for-22 from 3-point territory.
"We've had great practices the last week focusing on defense and got it done tonight on the glass," Head Coach
Dan Gawrisch said of his team's effort. "We kept their big rebounders off the boards without
Emma Dorn in the lineup. I thought we executed well offensively and had solid ball movement and took what the defense gave us."
Mya Morris led MLC with 21 points, hitting midrange jumpers and from the outside (4-for-8 from deep).
Lydia Feidt scored 14 points, while Kieselhorst (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals) and
Lauren Paulsen (6 points, 10 rebounds) did a little bit of everything against the Norse.
With the win, MLC improves to 4-2 and will continue their nonconference slate with a home matchup versus Carleton on Friday, December 13, at 5:30 p.m.
