Knights Beat Augsburg, Win Fourth Consecutive Game

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team continued its winning ways on Monday night, by defeating the Augsburg Auggies 56-50. Emma Dorn finished with a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a winning effort. The fifth-year senior shot efficiently from the floor, shooting 67 percent, and went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Dorn made seven critical points in the final minutes of action, including a 3-pointer that gave the Knights a 49-46 lead with just under four minutes remaining. The next MLC possession, Lauren Paulsen banked in a triple from the top of the key to make it 52-47 and from there the Knights would hold off Augsburg with their defense and a few free throws.

MLC showed up defensively once again and didn't give Augsburg anything easy around the perimeter, as the Auggies went 1-for-20 from deep. For the game, Augsburg shot just 24.6 percent from the floor and while the Knights shot 32 percent, they saved their best percentages for the fourth quarter when they shot around 42 percent.

Augsburg would stay in the game with a 16-7 edge in offensive rebounds, giving them a few more opportunities to score but the Knights' defensive pressure especially toward the end of the game, made it difficult for Auggies.

As a team, MLC blocked nine shots, which is a season-high, and have now held their last four opponents to under 60 points. On the season, MLC leads the UMAC for the fewest points allowed per game in nonconference play (53.3 ppg). It hasn't been just defensively though, as the Knights also lead the UMAC so far in points per game (67.5 ppg).

Along with Dorn, Grace Kieselhorst also made a mark in the stat sheet with 13 points, two steals, and blocks. Lydia Feidt also had a pair of blocks defensively, while Paulsen led the team with three blocks of her own.

MLC improves to 6-2 overall and will look to make it five in a row with another potential MIAC victory when they go to Hamline on December 31, at 3 p.m. First off, the Knights will play in an exhibition game at Waldorf on Thursday, December 19, at 4 p.m.
