Mankato, MN - The Martin Luther College baseball team played in a make-up game with Bethany Lutheran College to complete their three-game series with the Vikings. Bethany took the first two games 13-3 and 22-5 on March 19 and finished the sweep on Thursday, defeating MLC
15-3 in seven innings.
The Vikings went ahead 7-0 after the top of the second and further distanced themselves with a six-run fifth inning. Connor Jones led Bethany with four RBI and Nolan Spence had two RBI at third base.
Bethany benefited from seven MLC fielding errors, but also received a strong outing from starting pitcher, John Lutzi. The sophomore threw a complete game and allowed just three runs (2 earned), while fanning six MLC batters.
Mason Cox continued his hot hitting at the plate and hit a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. Meanwhile,
Parker Winghart and
Jackson Lindemann paced the Knights with two hits apiece in the middle of the lineup.
MLC (3-13, 0-3) will travel to Winona, MN to play UW-Superior in a doubleheader on the campus of Saint Mary's (MN). The games were originally planned for the MLC baseball field, but the field conditions will not be playable by tomorrow. Game one will start at 1:30 p.m. on Good Friday.
