Mankato, MN - The Martin Luther College softball team came up short in their doubleheader with Bethany Lutheran College by the final scores of
9-1 and
11-3 on Tuesday evening.
Bethany 9, MLC 1 (5 innings)
In game one, the Knights ran into two-way player, Kaija Mork, who pitched a four inning shutout and had a four-RBI game in their last meeting in March. On Tuesday, Mork tossed another four inning game on the mound and allowed one run to the Knights.
Mork had four runs of support in the first inning, as her squad took a 4-0 lead until
Olivia Siehr broke through with an RBI single up the middle, bringing homeÂ
Chloe Berg in the top of the second.
Following that run, the Knights were held in check and Bethany put across five more runs to take the first contest.
Mork added a solo home run at the plate for Bethany, while Emily Doyle had a four RBI game to go along with her three-run homer in the bottom of the first frame.
Five MLC players ended with one hit, as
Lisa Hoffer recorded the only extra base hit with a double in the third inning.
Bethany 11, MLC 3 (Six innings)
For the second straight game, the Vikings posted a four-run bottom of the first inning that got going off of an MLC error.
In the top of the third, MLC answered with a pair of runs when
Jordyn Heckendorf scored off of a passed ball and from a Hoffer single that scored
Jessica Horn.
With those runs, the Knights made it a 4-2 ball game, but Bethany got those two runs right back in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of another MLC error and a Mork RBI single.Â
The Vikings added one more run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-2, until the Knights put one more run in the top of the sixth. Bethany officially put an end to any comeback with a four-run sixth inning after Doyle and Mork came through once again with RBI doubles.
MLC (2-18, 0-6) will turn around for another three-game home series, as they play Minnesota Morris on Friday April 12, at 4 p.m. The other two games will be played on Saturday, April 13, starting at 11 a.m.
