St. Paul, MN - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team lost in a pair of round robin matches to Hamline
7-2 and Northwestern
9-0 at the Triangular up in the Twin Cities.
Hamline 7, MLC 2
The women competed well in the doubles matches with
Charis Glende/Abigail Schewe took their No. 2 match 8-6. Meanwhile,
McKenzey Crowley/Britney Prahl gave their No.1 opponent a hard fought match, before going down 4-8.
In singles play, the two teams competed in a pro-set format (one in which the winner is required to win 8 games by a margin of two games.) Glende had another impressive performance in No. 3 singles and edged out her opponent in a back-and-forth tiebreaker 8-7. Prahl and Crowley each fell 4-8, but once again played competitively in their No. 1 and No. 2 matches respectively.
Northwestern 9, MLC 0
In the match with Northwestern, the women went back to the normal two-set format. Schewe played her No. 4 match at 10:15 p.m. and fell in a third set tiebreaker 7-5, 1-6, 0-1 (8-10) and presented Northwestern's Anna Marquardt with a challenge.
Prahl battled back in her second set in No. 1 singles, but dropped her match 1-6, 4-6, while Glende fell 2-6, 3-6 in No. 3 singles.
Next up for the Knights (3-6, 1-0) is the first true home match of the season against Minnesota Morris at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
