Women's Tennis Edges Out Morris in Home Opener

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team secured its fourth win of the 2024 season in their true home opener against Minnesota Morris. The Knights defeated the Cougars in a tightly contested match 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The women earned two of their five points in doubles play courtesy of the No. 2 duo (Abigail Schewe/Charis Glende) winning 8-3 and the No. 3 pair (Katie Kutz/Rebekah Schroeder) topping their opponent 8-1. The Knights were close to a doubles sweep, but the tandem of Britney Prahl and McKenzey Crowley came up short 8-7, losing in the tiebreaker 7-4.

MLC took three singles matches to ultimately sway the outcome in their favor and Prahl came back strong with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win in No. 1 singles to lead the charge. Meanwhile, Schewe earned her second win of the day in No. 3 singles, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-0.

Katie Schoeneck moved past her No. 6 counterpart 6-0, 6-4 for the fifth point over the Cougars.

With the win, MLC improves to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in UMAC play and will look to continue their winning ways in a Wednesday, April 17, match with Bethany. The first serve is planned for 3 p.m. in Mankato.
