New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College tennis teams hosted their final matches of the season against Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. Both teams gave a great effort, but ultimately fell short, as the Eagles defeated MLC
9-0 on the men and women's side.
Women
Seniors
McKenzey Crowley and
Charis Glende wrapped up their MLC careers on Saturday and both participated in No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the last time. Crowley gave a good go of it, but fell short 0-6, 2-6, while Glende lost 4-6, 1-6.
Abigail Schewe fought hard in No. 4 singles before falling 4-6, 2-6 and
Rachel Schoeneck competed in No. 5 (4-6, 0-6).
Men
Matthew Koelpin had a nice effort in No. 3 singles and took his opponent to 0-6, 6-7. Seniors
Josiah Koelpin, Brian Friesenegger, and
Elijah Schulz also played their last match for the Knights and left the court with impressive battles against tough competitors in the Eagles.
Koelpin fell 2-6, 4-6 in No. 2 singles and Schulz played hard at No. 5 (2-6, 5-7). Meanwhile, Friesenegger took his No. 6 counterpart to a third set (6-7, 6-2, 0-1).
The women finished 2024 season in third place in the UMAC with a 6-8, 3-2 record and had their most wins since the 2018 season when they won seven matches.
The men went 3-10, 0-4 and finished in third place in the UMAC.
