Offense Comes Alive in MLC's Win Against Northland

New Ulm, MN - The MLC men's soccer team put together its best performance of the 2024 season and they were rewarded with their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Northland 4-1.

The Knights did it in front of a good crowd at the MLC Soccer Pitch and the offense came alive as they scored a season-best four goals. Overall, the offense had a lot of spacing and was active toward the back of the Northland defense, putting pressure on them all game long. The Knights put up 24 shots (15 on goal) in 90 minutes and got help from multiple players throughout.

Johannes Bourman opened up the scoring as he put MLC on the scoreboard 1-0 around the 18th minute of the first period. It wouldn't take long for MLC to add another goal, as freshman Josh Krenke connected on a shot on a breakaway in the 19th minute.

Stephen Wietzke used his speed to get past the Lumberjacks and scored his first goal of 2024. The Knights put the cherry on top of things following a goal by Abraham Schlomer to make it 4-0 in the 63rd minute. Schlomer found the back of the net on a nicely timed shot that came off of a corner kick from Caleb Pausma.

Jeremiah Bain and Benjamin Semenske each had an assist and the Knights shared the ball well in the conference win.

MLC goes to 1-5-1, 1-1 and will take on Bethany at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, in Mankato.
