Vikings get past MLC in defensive game

Mankato, MN - The MLC women's soccer team played Bethany Lutheran College on the road tonight. The Knights previously fell to the Vikings 8-1 last week at home, but MLC gave Bethany a much more competitive game on Wednesday, losing 2-0.

Overall the MLC defense had much more success limiting Bethany's scoring opportunities, but couldn't convert on some scoring chances. It took almost the entire first period for the Vikings to get into the scoring column as they found the back of the net in the 36th minute.

In the 62nd minute, Bethany added an insurance goal to go up 2-0 thanks to Elena Lujan Rubio, who picked up where she left off last time she played the Knights.

The Vikings had an 18-10 edge in total shot attempts (10-2 shots on net). Priscilla Boehm and Katie Schoeneck were the two MLC players to get a shot towards the goal.

Maria Vik recorded eight saves behind the help of her defense.

MLC will now go on the road to North Central for another UMAC contest this Saturday, October 18, at 1 p.m. in Minneapolis.
