New Ulm, MN - Saturday afternoon in the MLC Bowl was full of many big plays and milestones, as the Knights avenged its previous loss to Minnesota Morris back in October with a commanding
36-14 victory on Senior Day.
The Cougars won the earlier match up in the final minute on a 41-yard touchdown pass and won on their running game. In today's game, MLC won the line of scrimmage as
Arthur Robinson rushed for a new MLC single-game rushing record of 278 yards, passing the previous record set by
Justin Cloute (1997) when he went for 275 yards against Northwestern. Robinson ran over seven yards per carry and had a career high 38 attempts. In the second quarter, Robinson ran for a long of 73 yards. The sophomore had gone for a career high of 173 yards in the loss at Minnesota Morris last month, but smashed that mark today, thanks in large part to his offensive line making big, gaping holes throughout the contest.
MLC led 10-7 at halftime but could've been up more after leaving a few drives without points. The Knights changed that in the second half and were opportunistic with takeaways, which included a 20-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by
Nathan Schmidt on a forced fumble sack by
Andrew Esmay. That scoop and score made it 19-7 with 4:47 to go in the third quarter.Â
From there, Robinson punched it in the end zone from the 2-yard line to make it 26-14, and
Ethan Melso made a big play on a 45-yard interception, which he took to the house to seal the victory for the Knights.
There was another record broken for MLC today as
Micah Koschnitzke nailed three field goals to break the MLC single-season record for made field goals in a season (9), passing
Joel Stuebs from the 1998 season.
The MLC defense played well throughout the game and held the Cougars to just 198 yards of total offense. Minnesota Morris also scored one of its touchdowns on a blocked punt in the first half as the defense made it hard for Minnesota Morris to get much going offensively. MLC got to the quarterback in this one, finishing with six team sacks.
The Knights also honored seven MLC players who played their last game (
Jeremiah Stanton, Koschnitzke,
Thomas Koelpin, Thomas Balge, Esmay,
Timothy Manning, and
Isaiah Hahm).
Jesus (Chuy) Medina led the Knights with eight tackles (1.5 sacks), and Melso finished with seven tackles in addition to the pick-six. Dahlberg had six tackles, Koschnitzke recorded five tackles and an interception, while Esmay led the squad with 3.5 sacks.
With the win, MLC finished its 2025 season 5-5 overall, 3-4 UMAC.
