New Ulm, MN - The MLC men's basketball team completed a season sweep of Maranatha Baptist on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Sabercats
85-68 at home.
MLC beat Maranatha on the road before Thanksgiving, but received a stiffer challenge from the Sabercats on Saturday. The Sabercats took their first lead of the game at the 10:31 mark of the first half and held on until 1:20 remaining in the half, as MLC overcame its deficit to take a 38-34 halftime lead.
MLC shot 34 percent from the floor in the first half, but got much better looks at the basket in the second half, shooting almost 61 percent in the second half. MLC had a lot of success getting to the basket, and the court opened up for the Knights in half-court possessions.
The Knights displayed solid ball movement and found each other on cuts on various occasions, along with isolation drives to the rim. MLC also went 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in the second half to help matters even more.
Benjamin Pearson had another impressive performance, finishing with his fourth double-double effort of the season (20 points, 14 rebounds). His 14 boards were also a career high for the sophomore guard.
Adam Loberger led MLC in scoring with 21 points and went 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
Ethan Kjenstad shot 75 percent from the field and delivered 14 points, while
Luke Fix picked up 10 points down low for the Knights.
With the win, MLC bounces back from its home loss to Spurgeon on Friday and now will shift its focus to an away game at Macalester on Monday, December 8, at 7 p.m.
