Little River, SC—Day two saw the Knights take on two New England schools: UMass Boston and Maine Farmington. MLC gave it another go, but the Knights were held scoreless in each game. UMass Boston defeated them
9-0, while Maine-Farmington won
8-0 in game two.
Game 1 UMass Boston 9, MLC 0 (5 innings)
The Knights went up against a talented in the first game, as the Beacons just beat Minnesota Morris 14-0 in the game right before on another field. In this game, UMass - Boston raked in 14 hits and put the 8-run rule in effect against the Knights after posting nine runs in four innings at the plate.
Jacqueline Cherry threw the complete game shutout for the Beacons and struck out five.
MLC had a chance to get on the board when they had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, but the Beacons got out unscathed.
Game 2 Maine - Farmington 8, MLC 0 (5 innings)
MLC had scoring opportunities in the top of the first and fourth frames, but couldn't convert on them. In the fourth,
Amelia Thiel had a leadoff single and stolen base, but Farmington managed to retire the side from there.
The score was 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth until the Beavers put up four runs in that inning, which then made it difficult for any comeback attempt.
The Knights did get aggressive on the base pads when they got on, as they stole three bases coming from
Jess Horn, Thiel, and
Hannah Ott.
MLC (0-8) is scheduled for another pair of games tomorrow at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex when they play Oswego State at 9 a.m. and Maine - Presque Isle at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
