Auburndale, FL - MLC baseball concluded their annual spring break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against Maine - Farmington on Tuesday. The Knights played the Beavers close in each contest, but Maine - Farmington defeated the Knights
2-1 in Game 1 and
6-3 in Game 2.
Game 1 Maine - Farmington 2, MLC 1
The first matchup featured a pitcher's duel between two left-handers in
Connor Heckendorf and Chris Albert. Heckendorf gave another strong outing and gave his best performance in his three starts, but it would result in a loss due to Albert's effort. Heckendorf gave up just two runs (1 earned) in six innings with the Beavers getting to him in right away in the first inning while scoring the winning run in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Albert tossed a complete game with only one run allowed as the Knights got on the board in the seventh inning, where they aimed to come back.
Jordan Ramirez and
Samuel Rodriguez each finished with two hits to lead MLC, with Ramirez scoring the lone run.
Game 2 Maine-Farmington 6, MLC 3
The Beavers jumped ahead 4-0 to begin the second game with Jameson Bloch hitting an RBI double in the top of the second. MLC countered with three runs in the bottom half of the second to stay afloat as
Mark Vogel ripped a 2-run double, while
Jackson Anderson hit a sacrifice fly RBI.
Maine - Farmington held the Knights scoreless from there and finished off with the sweep after adding a run in the fifth and sixth respectively coming off of another Bloch RBI double.
Aidan Berg got the start for MLC, pitching 5.1 innings where the freshman gave up five runs (4 earned) and struck out seven.
Alex Ritter led the team in hits (2), while Vogel finished with a team-high two RBI.
MLC (5-6) finishes off their trip going 3-5 in their eight games played and will head back to Minnesota to get ready for conference play. On Friday, March 21, the Knights begin a 3-game series at Bethany starting at 3 p.m.
