St. Bonifacius, MN - The MLC baseball team gave another go at it on Saturday with a doubleheader at Crown after the Polars defeated the Knights 11-3 on Friday in game one. Crown would reach double-digits in games two and three to complete the sweep of MLC, beating the Knights
11-1 (Game 2) and
13-2 (Game 3).
Crown 11, MLC 1
MLC took the lead first after
Jackson Anderson lined a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring
Carter Seltz in the top of the second.
Aidan Berg would keep the Polars in through four innings as the Knights held a 1-0 lead during that stretch. However, Crown would break open the game in the bottom of the fifth, totaling seven runs to go up 7-1. From there, the Polars pushed across four additional runs in the bottom of the sixth to take game two.
Berg allowed six runs in five innings, but was charged just two earned runs on the mound. Crown capitalized on five MLC errors, while also recording 12 hits.
John Westendorf paced the Knights with two base hits.
Crown 13, MLC 2
Crown opened up the final matchup of the series with a two-run home run from Bryan Gerbers in the bottom of the first. The Polars then extended their lead to 8-0 after having a big inning in the third, scoring six runs on six hits.
MLC picked up their two runs in the game off a two-run big fly from
Carlos Walta. The junior hit his second home run of the series and his fifth of the season, tying the MLC single-season record for home runs (5).
Parker Winghart and Walta led with two hits apiece, while Walta also led with his two RBIs.
MLC will now have almost a week off before they host Northland College for their final home series of the year. The series starts on Friday, May 2, at 3 p.m.
