Roseville, MN - The MLC softball team continued its season on the road for a three-game series with Northwestern (MN) this weekend, but the Knights would come up short
10-0 on Friday and
22-0, 13-0 in the doubleheader on Saturday.
Game 1 Northwestern 10, MLC 0
Northwestern put up six runs to start game 1 on Friday and added a couple more in the second to go up 8-0. From there, Northwestern's starting pitcher, Emma Heffron kept the Knights off the board, holding MLC to two base hits in five innings.
Anna Busch and
Rachel McCaughna were the pair of MLC batters who reached base with a hit.
Game 2 Northwestern 22, MLC 0
On Saturday, the Eagles exploded for 15 runs in the bottom of the first frame to set the tone for the remainder of the game and the series. That inning was capped off by a 3-run big fly from Kate Trump.Â
In total, Northwestern recorded 21 hits from 15 different players on the roster. For MLC,
Jess Horn led the squad with two base hits from the leadoff spot in the lineup, while
Hannah Ott and
Emma Frey notched a hit for the Knights.
Game 3 Northwestern 13, MLC 0
The series concluded with another strong showing from Northwestern, with the Eagles' 13 runs coming in the first three innings. Northwestern received a nice effort from pitcher Ireland Strubbe, who held MLC to two hits, while also striking out nine batters.
Horn recorded her third hit in the series, while
Chloe Koschnitzke reached base with a hit.
