Baseball Closes Out Season with a Home Win Over Carleton

New Ulm, MN - MLC baseball closed out its 2025 season with a home doubleheader against Carleton College. MLC would fall 13-6 in the first contest of the day, but bounced back to defeat the Carleton Knights 11-2 in the final game of the season.

Game 1 Carleton 13, MLC 6 (7 Innings)

Carleton went up 3-0 in the top of the second and then tacked on five more runs in the third to take an 8-0 lead. However, MLC fought back in the bottom half of the third frame and countered with four runs to make it 8-4. In the inning, Parker Winghart legged out a triple after belting the ball over the head of the center fielder, bringing two runs as a result.

The Carleton Knights would add two runs in the fifth and one more run in the sixth, before Jackson Anderson hit his third home run of the season on a two-run shot to left. With the score now 11-6, MLC still had a chance for a possible comeback, but Carleton put up two additional runs in the top of the seventh to win game one.

Winghart and Anderson each had two RBIs in the game, to lead the Knights in that category, while six different MLC players scored one run apiece.

Game 2 MLC 11, Carleton 2

MLC finished the year on a high note in the second game of the doubleheader and had a pair of good outings from its pitching staff along the way. Caleb Carlovsky pitched his final game of his career and got the start, giving up two runs in a pair off innings on the mound. During that time, Carlovsky struck out four batters. Aidan Berg had another impressive outing for MLC and came in the game in relief of Carlovsky in the top of the third and pitched five innings of scoreless baseball to earn the win. Berg struck out six batters and allowed just two hits.

With the game tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the third, MLC received some RBI hits from seniors Carter Seltz, Alex Ritter, and Sam Rodriguez. Seltz doubled to right center in the third to make it 3-2, while Ritter tripled to right center to push the lead to 4-2 in the fourth. Rodriguez hit a two-run single to extend it to 6-2 later in the fourth.

MLC collected five runs in the bottom of the fifth that got started with an RBI single by Mark Vogel. The ensuing runs were all brought in from a couple of walks and hit-by-pitches to fully secure a Knights' victory in game two.

Rodriguez finished with a team-best three RBIs and three walks. Seltz and Anderson finished with two RBI apiece, while Ritter, Winghart, and Vogel scored two runs. John Westendorf extended his MLC record in single-season walks to 26 on the season after having three in game two. Westendorf also led the team with three runs scored.

With the win, MLC recorded their third win over a MIAC school this season and finished the year 9-27.
