MLC scores a pair of goals late to edge out Minnesota Morris

Morris, MN - On Wednesday, the MLC women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2025 season in exciting fashion, scoring two goals late in the second period to top Minnesota Morris 5-3 on the road in a high scoring matchup that counted as a non conference game.

MLC wasted no time reaching the back of the net, as Priscilla Boehm hit a shot just after the second minute of action in the game. Boehm's goal was the first of the season for the Knights and the forward gained some extra confidence by putting together another goal in the 31st minute to put MLC back on top 2-1 after the Cougars scored shortly after MLC's initial goal.

MLC entered the second period still up 2-1 and made it 3-1 following the first goal of Anna Kramer's collegiate career in the 54th minute. With the Knights gaining some separation, Minnesota Morris answered right back with a pair of goals within the next seven minutes that tied things up again.

With the game tied 3-3, MLC looked to proven offensive player, Katie Schoeneck, who cashed in on her shot to give the Knights a 4-3 advantage. From there, MLC left little doubt of the outcome by closing out the game with Marissa Buege's first career goal in the 89th minute.

Boehm led the Knights in goals (2) and shots on goal (4), while adding an assist. Senior midfielder, Naomi Foley, had an impressive day distributing the ball to her teammates, recording a career high in assists (3).

Kramer also added an assist and the Knights as a team had a 14-11 edge in shots on goal. Maria Vik allowed three goals, but made eight saves as goalkeeper for MLC.

"I thought we played great defense and kept our intensity all game long," said Head Coach Tyson Zarnstorff. We responded well to adversity and found the right passes at the right time."

MLC moves to 1-2 and will head to Watertown, WI, for another road game against Maranatha Baptist on Saturday, September 6, at 1 p.m.
