Knights hang in tough in overtime loss to Rams

Minneapolis, MN - The MLC men's basketball team had a week off from its latest game where it beat Bethany for the first time since 2015 at home. On Wednesday night, MLC played hard and stuck with North Central for the full 40 minutes plus an additional five minutes in the overtime period. Ultimately the performance from Remy Wedgeworth-Brown and Jax Effert pushed the outcome in the Rams' favor as they beat MLC 86-83.

Adam Loberger was the leading scorer for MLC's side with 28 points on nearly 50 percent shooting. The sophomore added six boards and two steals. Benjamin Pearson also recorded a pair of steals and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.

The Knights showed great perseverance, especially in the second half, battling back from down by as many as 12 points around the 14-minute mark (47-35). MLC rattled off a 14-2  run to tie the game up at 49-49 in just three minutes gone off the clock.

Loberger hit a jumper at the 1:20 mark, and Luke Fix made a couple of free throws to send the game into overtime. Both teams were neck-and-neck in overtime but the Rams made it 84-83 with 46 seconds and clinched the victory with two free throws with six seconds remaining.

Fix finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while fellow senior Tom Balge had 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

MLC will play Northwestern on Saturday, January 31, at 2:45 p.m. in New Ulm.
