NEW ULM, Minn. - MLC women's soccer couldn't dig itself out of a two-goal deficit and lost 2-1 to Ripon in nonconference action on Wednesday night.
The Knights fell behind early, which has been a familiar theme recently, this time giving up a goal in the 18th minute after they failed to clear a ball from a Ripon corner kick. The ball ricocheted around the box until Alex Siudzinski fired it into the net.
MLC saw its deficit double in the 67th minute when Addison Misner belted a long shot from about 35 yards out that carried over the head of
Maria Vik and into the top of the goal.
Katie Schoeneck gave some life back to the Knights just 39 seconds later, scoring on a powerful shot into the bottom left corner. From that point on, the Knights only got four shots away and none of them were on target. The Red Hawks outshot MLC 23-14 and 12-4 in shots on goal.
Vik made 10 saves, but picked up the loss.
MLC closes its regular season out on Saturday against UW-Superior with a chance to clinch the No. 3 seed in the UMAC tournament.
