Morris, MN - The MLC men's basketball team went on the road Saturday in search of its first win over Minnesota Morris this season. The Knights previously fell to the Cougars in nonconference play in November, 88-81, while Minnesota Morris defeated MLC 106-91 in New Ulm in January, a game in which Kaden Pieper (45 points) and the Cougars shot lights out.
In today's game, the Cougars shot the ball well from distance again, going 14-of-29 from 3-point terrirtory (48.3 percent), especially in the second half to beat MLC
88-72.
MLC had it going from the field in the first half and overcame an early deficit to take the lead seven minutes remaining in the half. Minnesota MOrris took a 43-39 lead at half, and while the Knights stayed within strikiing distance only down 62-57 with under 12 minutes to go, the Cougars picked it up and led the rest of the way by double digits.
Piper only scored 11 points in this contest, but he impacted the game in other ways, leading his team in rebounds (15) and assists (4).
Adam Loberger had another impressive game for the Knights, leading them in scoring and rebounding (26 points, 9 rebounds) while shooting 50 percent.
Benjamin Pearson was the other MLC player to get into double figures, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Thomas Balge totaled nine points and blocked two shots.
MLC will host North Central for Senior Day on Wednesday, February 18, and with a win will still be in consideration for a spot in the UMAC tournament.
