Tom Balge reaches 1,000 career points in home loss to UW-Superior

New Ulm, MN - The MLC men's basketball team took on UW-Superior for the second time this season on Parents' Day Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets made it hard for MLC to get much going offensively and kept the Knights in check, defeating them 79-60.

Despite the loss, senior guard Tom Balge reached the 1,000 career points milestone, needing just two points to achieve it. Balge was held scoreless in the first half, but got it off of an offensive rebound early in the second half.

UW-Superior came in with a solid defensive game plan to double Adam Loberger and took the Knights out of their rhythm. Both teams were aggressive on the offensive glass in the first half as the Knights grabbed eight, while the Yellowjackets recorded nine, which led to 22 second-chance points.

The first half featured multiple lead changes and more back-and-forth action with UW-Superior leading 33-31 at the half. The Knights would retake the lead in the 14th minute of the second half when Benjamin Vasold and Benjamin Pearson hit consecutive jump shots to give MLC a 42-41 lead. However, that would be the last lead of the contest for MLC as the Yellowjackets' defense tightened up even further, limiting MLC on offense.

UW-Superior almost scored half of its points in the paint (36) and had a balanced game from its lineup with 31 bench points.

Loberger (13), Vasold(11 points), and Balge (10 points) all reached double figures, while Ethan Kjenstad grabbed a pair of steals defensively.

MLC will face Crown College on the road on Wednesday, February 11, at 7:15 p.m.
