St. Paul, MN - The MLC softball team picked up a split in its nonconference doubleheader at Hamline University on Wednesday. After the Pipers claimed game one
7-0, the Knights responded with a clutch
6-5 victory over Hamline in game two.
MLC 6, Hamline 5 Game 2
Game two started with a lot of momentum for MLC as the Knights collected four hits and three runs in the top of the first.
Kiara Humann led off with a single to center field and
Kaylee Pickering followed that up and brought Humann in with an RBI double to left center field. MLC put across a couple more runs in the inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Pipers would answer with four runs in the bottom of the second to go up 4-3, but MLC scored two in the top of the fourth to trade back the lead 5-4. With an RBI ground out from
Chloe Koschnitzke making it 6-4 in the fifth, the Knights got their necessary outs needed to hold off a Pipers comeback. With a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights got out of it after Hamline left two runners on base.
Humann led MLC with three hits, while Pickering and
Chloe Berg both recorded two base hits. The Knights were also aggressive on the base pads, stealing three bases off of the Hamline pitchers. For the game, MLC outhit Hamline 12-8.
Hamline 7, MLC 0 Game 1
In the first contest of the afternoon, both starting pitchers were throwing shutouts through three innings of softball. After Hamline got out of the top of the fourth with still no runs allowed, the Pipers seized control of the action, by putting across a six-run bottom of the fourth. Hamline capitalized on a couple of MLC errors and totaled four hits in the inning.
