MORRIS, Minn. - For the second time in less than a week,
Heather Wendt scored an important, late goal for MLC women's soccer to run its unbeaten run to five matches.
After scoring in the final minute of last week's draw vs. Crown, Wendt scored the Knight's goal in a 1-0 win at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday afternoon. In the 78th minute, Morris goalkeeper CJ Frear-Boerner saved Wendt's original shot from the left side, but she was able to convert the rebound.
"Heather was very determined on her goal to work through two defenders and the goalkeeper to secure the win," coach
Tyson Zarnstorff said.
The UMAC battle was tight throughout. MLC edged out 51 percent possession and also had narrow advantages in shots, 13-9, and shots on goal, 8-6.
Zarnstorff praised his team's ability to keep a shutout in the conference match that featured 11 fouls whistled on the Cougars.
"It was a great defensive effort today in a hard-fought game," Zarnstorff said. "It was a very physical game and the team kept working hard."
