Knights explode for five goals at Maranatha

WATERTOWN, Wis. - MLC women's soccer was shutout in the season opener. Game two couldn't have gone much differently.

The Knights beat Maranatha 5-0 on the road, earning their first win of the season.

"We had a balanced scoring attack," coach Tyson Zarnstorff said. "We adjusted to how they were playing us and created many scoring chances."

MLC had four first-time goalscorers on Saturday. After coming close on Tuesday, freshman Allison Olson scored in the 26th minute. Fellow freshman Reese Krause Staebell scored just before halftime. 

Sophomore Heather Wendt scored her first career goal in the 31st minute and junior Alaina Hackmann scored in the 67th minute, which was her first career goal.

"It was good to see so many first time scorers," Zarnstorff said.

Marissa Buege got MLC on the board first, scoring after just 6:43. She was assisted by Anna Kramer.

Maria Vik played about 74 minutes and needed to make just a single save. Krause Staebell played the final 16 minutes in goal.
